Bluetooth proximity monitor

3:37 pm — Code, Geek, Linux, Stuff

After a bit of fooling around and some help from the Gentoo wiki, I hacked together a system to lock my $DISPLAY when I walk away from the terminal and unlock it when I return by detecting whether my cell phone is in the area or not.

The Gentoo Wiki recommended using hcitool, but I use l2ping, because it returns faster. It’d also be nice if there was a way to unlock a locked $DISPLAY without entering a password and without killing xscreensaver, but, eh, what can you do.

Code is coming.
