Strange mix

Problem: Girlfriend leaves early in the morning, keeps hitting snooze button, snooze button goes off five minutes after she leaves, wakes me up, eventually.

    Geek response

  • Eventually wake up. Turn off alarm clock. Drink a beer, go back to sleep.

  • Tear alarm clock out of wall. Remove wall from building. Remove building. Remove surrounding block. Drink sole surviving local bar dry, go back to sleep.

  • Rewire alarm clock to replace snooze functionality with phone call to pager number of local drill instructor. Drink six local bars dry, go back to sleep.

I took the middle ground and simply removed the contacts on the snooze button.

Fun with USB

So, after playing a bit around with D-Bus, I wrote a little program to monitor insertions and removals of my USB keydrive (the one with Puppy on it). When it’s removed, it shells out to a bash script that forgets all the SSH passphrases in the agent and kicks the screensaver on, and reprompts me for my passphrase when it’s inserted again.

Stupids!

My car failed smog. :-(

So, that’s $50 down the tubes, plus repair costs (PC Load Letter EGR valve? wtf is an EGR valve?).

At least I got $10 off the smog (and a fix-it ticket, instead of a “you are now screwed” ticket, from the officer who pulled me over).
